Spin Out

My brother asked me to do a painting (from my view)
of what he was like on drugs.
So here is my steps (not for the faint at heart)

This picture was not easy for me to do. I closed alot of this up a long time
ago. I saw and heard so much growing up.

First thing i see about drug addicts. Yes they chose to be on drugs but most
of the time its to hide something weather it be pain or the past. Things they
have done or been through that they don't want to remember.

But remember this, it doesn't make them bad people. Bad choices yes, but not bad
people. There lives from the first try are ruled by those drugs. They need
it and crave. And when they try to come off it, they have not only what they
were trying to hide from the first place come back but everything they have done
since then come to a realization to. So why get off the drugs? when it only
hurts and is painful. Its so much easier to hide, even though it only causes them
more problems then its worth. But they don't see it that way.

My painting shows a spin out. You hide yourself away in your own little world
or building as i tried to portray. In a dark room where you feel safe and hidden away
from the eyes that might see. The people they most feel guilty for disappointing
is there family. So they hide, they hide in anyway they can.

He feels pain.
Lets numb it up.
Ecstasy and Pleasure.
Sigh relief.
spin spin spin.

Out of control again.
Stink of drug in the air.
To late to make the amends.
It makes the world fair.
spin spin spin.

Hide and seek.
In my dark little room.
Not gonna take a peek.
In case true feelings begin to bloom.
spin spin spin.

I love you brother and i am glad to see that you are trying so hard to make things right.
I hope that you find that path and hold on tight. If not remember i know where
you live and i will start calling again just to remind you i love you.
love always me

salem days painting

alright so this year salem days is doing a painting contest for there annual salem calender.
they wanted a picture of salem. i was excited yet not so much cause that meant i had to do
some portrait/realism painting and i don't like to. lets admit it i am not very good at that style
of painting. if i could draw it fine but paint grr!!! so i took up the challenge i decided to do
something old and new.
a road sign. not just any road sign salem canal road, road sign becuase it is a newer sign
but an old road. so i started and was doing ok. but then just didn't like the way it looked so
i thought i would make it look like a painting and not realy. i made the letters and everything
else look hand painted on. a little old with the new.

sketch in progress

Alright so i though it would brush up on my "realism"
its easy to do and you don't have to do much imagination.
Just look at your lines and shadows and have at it ;)
so i will slowly be doing this and show my progress.
let me know how you think it goes.
WISH ME LUCK! (its been a while)
Alright so you can see much. I tried to outline the boot.
I took an H pencil and started with a light sketch around the whole thing.
Drawing lines down the middle and were things need to match up.
Looked a little like a maze when i first started.

As you get going you can erase the lines and light sketch what you want.
Then you can go back over with darker pencils to get the shade you want.
I started with a 3B pencil around the edges and that way i can see if i really like the
length and width of the boot. Then took a 9B pencil for the bottom and a 8B for the heal
because the bottom is darker then the heal.

QUICK LESSON IN PENCILS
Just so you know pencils have a scales. On mine is a basic
scale H F HB B 2B 3B 4B 5B 6B 7B 8B 9B. You can go lower
into H's but i haven't messed with those yet. H is light and 9B is dark.
To get an idea we normally use a 2B in your every day. So you could take
it and shade it along a paper start very light and go real dark and you could
have it close to the scale.
